Fire Safety

Plan what to do in case of a fire when you check into your room.

  • Find the two exits closest to your room. Count doors between your room and these exits so you will have a reference point if it is smoky.
  • If you hear the fire alarm or smoke alarm is sounding, ACT, don’t investigate.
  • If the fire is in your room, get out and close the door. Once out, report the fire immediately to the Front Desk or pull the alarm at the nearest pull station.
  • If the fire is not in your room, leave the room if you can safely.
  • Feel your door prior to opening, if the door is hot, do not attempt to leave your room as your room may be the safest place to be. Use a wet towel to prevent smoke from coming in under the door.  Shut off all fans and air-conditioners. Signal out of your window.
  • If your door is cool to the touch, open it slowly and proceed quickly and calmly to the nearest exit. Crawl if there is smoke, fresher air will be near the floor. Take your room key so that you can go back if you can’t use the exits.
  • Never use the elevator in case of fire. It could stop at the fire floor or cease to operate.
  • All guests should gather on the ocean side of the property and wait for staff and emergency personnel to give further instructions.

General Safety

The safety and security of our guests are of the utmost concern to the Colony Hotel. Please heed the following suggestions.

We are all guests on this planet so we need to protect it for future generations of travel and hospitality. The Kennebunkport Colony has been a “green” business since purchased by the Boughton family in 1948. Both of the Colony properties have flourished for years as green hotels well before it was “hip to be eco-chic”. The Colony Hotel was established a Maine’s first “Environmentally Responsible Hotel” in 1992 and a 1996 Charter Member of Green Hotels of America Association. The Colony Hotel supports a sustainable world while delivering a premium guest experience through the use of non-intrusive, high quality, eco-friendly products and services. We are committed to doing our part to protect and preserve our environment. Here are just a few of the steps that we have taken towards this goal:

  • Composting of kitchen waste and recycling of as much waste as possible
  • Landscaping using all native plants
  • Switching to bulk dispensers rather than disposable bottles for in-room products, organic linens and eco-friendly blankets, pillows and mattress covers.
  • Use of environmentally friendly cleaning products
  • Reducing water consumption by giving guests the option of “leaving towels on the floor to have them replaced, or hang on the towel bars to reuse”.
  • Donating $1 of every room night to the Kennebunk Land Trust. So far, we have donated nearly $350,000 towards the preservation of natural spaces in and around Kennebunkport.

The Colony Hotel offers a beautiful venue for weddings, corporate events and other functions. We have indoor and outdoor spaces for groups from 20 to 300 with full food and beverage service.

Corporate

For corporate events, parties, fundraisers, seminars or other functions speak to our corporate sales manager at extension 523 or stop by their office located across from the Front Desk.

Weddings

We hope you and your pet companion enjoy your visit. Please be aware that the Colony charges a pet fee of $45 per day, per pet.

Public Areas:

Please keep pets on a leash. Dogs are welcome essentially everywhere except the indoor dining areas. While they are allowed in the pool area, they are not allowed in the pool itself, or on the lounge chairs.

Please clean up after your dog. There are cleanup stations to the right as you exit the front doors of the main building, between the Galland and Carriage houses, and towards the bottom of the rear lawn (follow the path towards the ocean).

Dining:

The Marine Room has outdoor and covered patio seating where puppy is welcome to join you for lunch or dinner. Please check with the hostess or manager to make sure you’re in the right spot.

For Breakfast, we recommend finding a table on the veranda. You can bring a plate out from the buffet and enjoy the view with breakfast.
In Your Room:

Please do not leave your pet unattended. Housekeeping will not enter a room with a dog inside. If there is a particular time that would be more convenient for you to receive service, please contact Housekeeping at extension 511.

We have a limited number of pet blankets available. If you would like one, please contact Housekeeping (ext 511) or the Front Desk (ext 500).

Excessive noise or other disruption which disturbs other guests, or damage to the room by your pet, may result in a charge of up to $250. Once again, the best way to avoid problems is to not leave them unattended.
